The songs come from The City of Mazri in the province of Tkhuma, in the eastern Kurdistan Mountains of Iraq. The collection records the dialect and language of Assyrian tribes of Eastern Turkey around 1915. Recorded in Flint, Michigan, America and performed by those displaced during World War I. Some of the songs reference both the War and also the Russian advance on Turkey. Some songs are repeated because they were recorded again at a different time. The collection features 3 different types of songs: Old Assyrian, unique Assyrian and translation of hymns. Some of the recordings are not songs, but instead, are recordings of dialect and language.
